Standing Fan Problems And Their Solutions
When considering problems associated with standing fans one should be putting the brand into consideration. Though standing fan has general problems but the frequently occurring ones from a particular brand is a sign of weakness of that manufacturer.
Considering a particular brand of standing fan has regular and respective weaknesses in terms of the overall speed which is usually calculated in RPM (rotation per minute), it can be concluded that such brand or manufacturer’s standing fan usually comes in low RPM.
Today we shall be discussing the generally known problems of a standing fan, their causes, and possible remedy.
Standing fan came as a result of the need to improve the designs of an electric fan. Before its existence, the electric fan has been in different design such as table fan, wall fans, and ceiling fan.
The difference standing fan offers is the ability to stand on the floor, and having adjustable height so that the circulation of the air can be carried out at every level of the space.
The standing fan has the advantage of circulating air beyond 180 degrees. Despite its advantages; it still has the disadvantage the following:
BLADE MISALIGNMENT
One of the major problems of the standing fans is blade misalignment.
In most cases; it does not mean that the blade was not aligned properly in an eccentric position rather it is a common problem that usually occurs between the fan blade and the blade guard.
Sometimes the blade guard usually got hit by the rotating blade thereby causing unpleasant noise and if such persists it may lead to further damage to the fan.
The only possible way to ratify it is to lose the blade guard and re-align it with the fan blade.
After the re-alignment one can know if the problem has stopped by manually rotating the fan blade at a low speed to ensure it does not hit any part of the blade guard.
BEARING FAILURE
The bearing usually fixed on the coil shaft can get damaged after some time or may get stiff due to a long time of packing the fan which caused the bearing to start rusting.
There are other factors that can cause bearing failure but these two mentioned above are the popular causes.
A major sign of such a problem is an irritating sound coming from the fan while rotating or the fan may not be able to rotate at all.
When the last sign is shown, the fan will still be showing a sign that voltage is in it by making a silent humming sound while the fan blade will be static.
The possible solution to this defect is to get the fan bearing changed and greased regularly.
PRESSED BLADE GUARD
Another cause of jamming of the blade and its guard can be a result of the blade guard being deformed by external forces.
No matter how little or minor the deformation may be, it has the capacity of changing the manufacturer’s alignment, hence the defect will cause the rotating blade to keep on hitting one area of the fan guard.
The best way to avoid this problem is to ensure that the standing fan does not fall on the ground since it can deform its guard.
For the already deformed guard, one can locate the deformed area by simply rotating the blade with one hand and identifying where the blade is hitting the guard, and adjusting it.
DAMAGED SCREWS/THREADS
Some people do experience their standing fan having its guard falling off or other fixed joints of the fan falling off, this problem can simply be as a result of damaged screw or threads used in fixing the parts.
When such is the case, the joint may be joined together again using force fitting.
BROKEN FITTING KNOBS/COVERS
When the regulator knob and other knobs such as the rotation control knob have become weak and unable to stay in their fixed position, they will start falling off if any large force is applied. Such can be repaired by either force-fitting the knob or changing it completely.
OTHER MINOR PROBLEMS
There are other minor problems with the standing fan which rarely occur they are;
The vibration of the fan when trying to change the direction of the airflow or fan position while in operation. That is while trying to make its usual circulatory motion.
The inability of the standing fan to change its position in circulating the air, that is; it does not turn the blade the usual 180 degrees.
If you have other faults of standing fan known to you that are not mentioned in this post, use the comment entry to let us know.
than table top standing fan does not rotate the blade at all, there is curre
nt but seems not to work
If you are sure there is a current in it, Some factors can be the cause; check the following:
damaged bearing
burnt armature/coil, etc.
My standing fan feld on the ground and cannot rotate when turned On, but makes a humming sound
Please hit the coil section hard while connected to electricity and ensure the blade is not stuck on the blade guard.
If the fan only work on 3 switch and do not work on 1 and 2 switch what is the cause of the fault.
Peter the cable sending voltage to the 1 and 2 switches has cut inside. Consider changing the cable or replace the entire fan switch. A technician can help you with that. Thank you for dropping your technical challenges. Please feel free to discuss subsequent challenges with us.
Please my rechargeable standing fan out of sudden one mid night started making a very disgusting sound non stop and I noticed that the lower and lowest button stopped functioning, Please what can I do?
Two things that could cause the problem of the disgusting sound:
1. If the fan blade is mistakenly touching the fan guard while rotating
2. if the bearing in the fan motor has gone bad.
Please look out for any of these two possible causes.
As for the non-functioning buttons, you will need to disassemble that unit to know what has gone wrong with the buttons. possibly, disconnection may have occurred on the lines controlled by the buttons.
I really enjoy this site keep the good work on. Eduction is costly and you do it for free helping people to get solution for their technical problem, tanx…
My orient stand fan goes on and off frequently. I bought it an year ago
Thank you for telling us your challenge.
Regarding the often ON/OFF of your standing, it is likely the switch is having partial contact inside. Take it to a nearby technician to chexck the wire connection inside the fan.
my iwin energy rechargeable fan is not circulating enough air and makes too much noise
I have a pedestal fan that is extendable. When I extend the pole to make it taller, the screw is not holding anymore and it slides back down. I’ve cleaned the bottom part of the pole and taken out the screw and repositioned it with no luck. Help!
