A new robot has been made by the SegWay Robotics for the purpose of helping retailers in their business. The mini-sized robot was meant to help the retailers and for their selling of products and for shopping purposes in any shopping center.
It’s a product for variety of functions. The source said the new robot uses artificial intelligence to detect humans and recognize poor behavior. A product into existence by the company that gave the Segway.
The robot had been named “Nimbo” and is able to move around the street to make delivery with the special ability of calling for human backup in the case of unusual activity or attack to it.
With the special aim of selling, shopping, making delivery and other crucial functions, the robot is not a humanoid rather it uses tires that rolls on the ground for its movement.
Though the upright appearance seems like that of the humanoid robots, especially the movable arms, camera eyes and small head, the robot may not be compared to the humanoid robots like the Sophia and henry robots based on human appearance resemblance.
The ability to call for help if trouble arises, makes its functionality special since the system offered a solution from humans who may wish to abuse the robot while carrying out its duty.
Though, its operational performance is very good and amazing, the robot may have the disadvantage easy abuse from humans since its presence in any street can easily be noticed by any humans unlike the full humanoid whose presence in streets may not easily be noticed when equipped with proper human clothing. Besides children playing on the street may mistake the robot to a toy due to the mini size. In a way of avoiding all these obstacles, the manufacturers decided to include a feedback system that will help the robot report any abuse immediately.
The robot was able to detect poor behaviors by humans during its testing. The example of such poor behavior is fighting taking place in the streets and whenever such is detected it will flash its light and as well send feedback signal to the owner in the form of a video record of the incident that ignited the signal. It can equally play a warning message to humans in the case of any poor behavior, abuse, attack or obstruction on its way.
With it maximum speed of 11 mph (11 miles per hour), the owner of the robot can use it to chase someone as well record the person’s appearance and actions in any street.
As an artificial intelligence robot, Nimbo carries its actions autonomously because it has the ability of being reset or given a new duty always through its settings making to be potentially adopted for many security settings.
