Application Of Robots And Drones In Search For The Missing Football Team in a Cave
A special team from Sweden alongside other rescue team have begun the search for the 13 members of a youth football team that went missing in the over 10-kilometer long cave in Mae Sai district of Chiang Rai since six days.
The air force of the Royal Thai had flown a C130 plane from Don Mueang military airport to the scene with a 13-member crew along with drones and robots to assist in carrying out underwater and in an air search for the missing football team.
According to the report, the robots used by the Air Force was invented by a university in Bangkok. The information revealed that the name of the university as “King Mongkut’s University of technology in the north of Bangkok.”
Late this morning, the Air Force plane arrived at Chiang Rai airport alongside the drones and robots and the force was seen stationing different apparatus to assist in the operation of the drones and robots for the purpose of carrying out the search operation successfully.
The major robot used was a humanoid whose description had been revealed as below;
It has two arms which are movable in their joints autonomously.
The body has cameras and high-intensity lights fixed at sensitive locations.
The control unit receives the video coverage of the environment as the robot embarks on the search and rescue mission.
Different devices were added to the whole set up to assist the drones and robots capabilities and they include;
sonars,
magnetometers,
a still camera,
a manipulator or cutting arm,
water samples,
and special measuring instrument for water temperature,
color,
density,
sound velocity of the water,
light penetration,
among other sensitive data needed.
These devices were used to ensure that the mission of the drones and robots yield a good success.
The operation had revealed the new approach for the current technology of drones and robots, though the search is ongoing, the personnel involved have shown positive feedback based on the arrangement in the whole activity.
Though the condition of the environment where the incident happened is not favorable for the search operation based on weather condition and other factors, it will be a matter of time when the detail of the whereabouts of the missing team will be revealed.
