HOW NEW DRIVERLESS BUSES WILL HELP IN TACKLING ROAD TRAFFICS
A new company has made a new model of driverless bus different from the model initially made by Mercedes Benz. The robotic bus has two directional driving mechanism to enable it move at either direction without having to turn.
Based on the two directional feature, the newly made self-driving bus has been made with double-fronts design, a feature that makes the front and back of the bus to look the same, so that its movement in any direction cannot be seen as moving with its back, rather any direction of moving will automatically become its front.
Based on the company’s ideology, the bus is expected to come into mass production before the year 2019 and will been the major shuttle bus for modern cities battling with road congestion.
The bus travels at the average speed of 20Km/H and could up to 20 passengers at a time. It is equipped with sensors and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to enable it detect obstacles, when to increase or reduce its speed, when to blow horns, when to stop for a passenger to drop or enter, how to recognize traffic signals and obey them, how to maneuver potholes and how to determine the next direction of movement based on the places indicated by the individual passengers in it, and among other special functions mentions by the company during the revealing of the special bus.
According to the firm, the bus is specifically built for shuttle services along all the busy roads in major cities and they expect investors into the mass production of their new technology aimed at increasing the ease and less stress in public transport system. The new bus will make some private car owners to stop using them on the busy roads to help curb the traffic congestions seen on those roads.
Though their company name has not been made public, the representative said they are finding ways to eliminate and discourage the use of private cars through the use of electronic and AI technologies because that had been the major cause of road traffic. Stressing that most of the private cars on those roads have only the driver in them and if all should be in the electronic bus it will automatically take half of the number of cars off the road.
The initial self-driving electronic bus was revealed by Mercedes Benz after taking to the roads for testing and the firm made the promise of commercially the technology later. The bus is a little bigger than the new bus and their overall design seems different also, with the two different model of self-driving public transport system in place, the vision of the new company in the reduction road traffic will not be far to become a reality.
