Why Rolls-Royce Is Working On A Flying-Taxis
Rolls-Royce, the popular automobile industry has unveiled their plan of developing a new concept in technology which will focus on making vehicles that could fly to replace the existing taxis.
The newly designed aircraft was said to have the ability of being adapted for public transportation, logistics, military application or personal use if it becomes available by the year 2020.
According to the prototype revealed through the skynews, it is going to be an aircraft with vertical take-off and landing.
The new electric vertical take-off and landing (EVTOL) system was unveiled by Rolls-Royce this week and would use gas turbine technology to propel the vehicle with minimal noise and without the need for recharging.
In search for partners for the project, the designed aircraft engine manufacturer unveiled the new Famborough air show this week.
It will be equipped with wings that can rotate 90 degrees and fold away at cruising height with the ability of carrying up to five passengers at the speed of 250 miles per hour for around 500 miles.
The head of the Rolls-Royce electrical team said, the new idea is part of the exciting and inescapable trend in electrification that will ultimately become a revolution.
Rob Watson, who is the head of the electrical team said, “Building on our existing expertise in electric technologies and aviation, Roll-Royce is actively exploring a range of possible markets and applications for electric and hybrid electric flight”
So far, some aviation and technological leading companies had been investing in the vertical take-off technology that could make electric flying taxis a reality, among the investors are; Airbus and Uber.
Instead of using helipads or airports, the new air-vehicle will have the ability of landing and taking-off from the streets. Making it the best for personal transportation and stress free movement.
