Biomedical engineering is an aspect of engineering that involves the development of equipment, instruments, and devices to solve health-related problems.
This is a course under engineering that uses the concept of mechanical, electrical, material, and computer engineering to build devices that will be used on humans; it basically uses the concept of all engineering aspects to build equipment to be used on humans.
People who study this course later end up becoming biomedical engineer who develops equipment to solve healthcare problems. They apply all the concepts of engineering to build medical instruments.
Since this course is a rather budding profession there are few universities that offer the courses and another reason why few universities offer the course is because lack of training facilities and tools for the course which is necessary because the course is practically based.
Hence, the few schools that offer these courses are listed below;
ACHIEVERS UNIVERSITY
Achievers University is located at Owo, Ondo State. It is a privately owned university that was founded in 2007 by Bode Ayorinde.
The fact that this University offers this course can be attributed to the fact that it is a private university and it is likely they will have the right training equipment for students learning.

- AFE BABALOLA UNIVERSITY
Afe Babaloloa University is located at Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state. It is a privately owned university that was founded in 2009 by Afe Babalola.
The availability of the course in this school can be believed to be because it is a private university and they will likely have the right training facilities that will aid students learning.
- UNIVERSITY OF ILLORIN (UNILORIN)
UNILORIN is a federal university located at Illorin, Kwara state. This school was founded in 1975 by the federal military government decree. The department of biomedical engineering is under the faculty of engineering and technology
- UNIVERSITY OF LAGOS (UNILAG)
UNILAG is a federal university located at Yaba, Lagos state. It was founded in 1962, one of the earliest universities founded in Nigeria. The biomedical engineering department is under the faculty of the college of medicine.
- BELLS UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY
Bells university is located at Otta, Ogun State and it was founded in 2004 by Olusegun Obasanjo. This privately owned University is said to be one of the first universities to be established.

- FEDERAL UNIVERSITIES OF HEALTH SCIENCE
Federal University of health science is located at Otukpo, Benue State. It was founded in 2020 and it’s a government-owned institution.
- OYO STATE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
Oyo State university is located at Ibadan. It was founded in 2012. The biomedical engineering department is under the faculty of engineering and technology
- UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN
University of Ibadan is located at Oduduwa road, Ibadan, Oyo State. It was founded in 1948. Biomedical engineering is only available as a post-graduate program in the school.
- FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY (FUTA)
FUTA is located at Akure, Ondo State. It was founded in 198. Biomedical engineering is under the faculty of the school of health and health technology.

At least a distinction in the courses below:
English/ Mathematics
Physics
Chemistry
Biology
- O’LEVEL
At least five credits pass in English, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology
- DIRECT ENTRY
Two ‘A’ level passes in chemistry, physics, biology, and mathematics.
