It has been a while since we discussed an office printer especially How To Refill Office Printer Cartridges.

Though this topic had been in my mind but never really get the time to sit down and put it into writing not until I recently refilled my HP photo smart printer, then I realized how important the information could be to others especially if you are using any office printer for the first time.

Though not everyone will advise you to refill your printer cartridge when it finishes because of the technicalities involved, not considering the economic benefit of it. The problem has always been how to refill office Printer Cartridges.

Some office printer cartridge cost about 20% of the price of the printer itself and comes with two cartridges (one for black color and the other for the rest colors), so imagine the cost of changing the printer cartridge or cartridges anytime the ink finishes.

If you do that four times a year you would have spent more money than the cost of the printer itself.

As I assumed earlier, I thought probably the office printer manufacturers would love you to keep buying a new cartridge once the ink finishes but that is not true.

However, irrespective of the office printer cartridge, refilling is far better than keep buying new ones.

HOW TO REFILL OFFICE PRINTER CARTRIDGES

There are about eleven detailed steps you can use to refill your cartridge. Though it may be longer than the steps I actually tried to use the steps to break it down for you.

1. BUY A PRINTER CARTRIDGE REFILL BOTTLES

There are different types of refill bottles selling in the market. Each refill is meant for a particular type of office printer, make sure you ask questions before buying.

In most cases, you will have to copy out the cartridge number and show it to the ink dealer so that the right refill can be given to you.

Do not buy more than one packet at once because some may become bad after being unused for a long time. The one for the color cartridge is different from that of the black cartridge.

2. OPEN THE REFILL PACKET

The refill packet comes with the accessories you will use to refill the cartridge. You may even see written illustrations on how to refill Office Printer Cartridges on the packet wall.

Some of the accessories are; two transparent polythene hand groves, and one, two, or three strings and their needles, these items make it easy to carry out the refill operation without having your clothes stained with ink when you do it carefully.

3. WEAR THE HAND GROVES

The starting point is to wear the hand groves carefully to avoid tearing them apart because it is just light polythene hand groves.

4. FIX THE STRINGS AND NEEDLES

The next step is to fix the string with a needle and check if it can suck and inject inks by drawing the string handle up and down to ensure smooth movements.

5. INSERT THE STRING NEEDLE INTO THE BOTTLE AND DRAW OUT THE INK

At this step, you have to open the refill Bottle and draw out enough volume of ink into the string by inserting the string needle into the refill bottle and drawing out about 5ml of ink into the string.

6. OPEN THE TOP SEAL OF THE CARTRIDGE

When looking at the cartridge you may not know where the refill hole or port is located, this I very common with the cartridge of Photo Smart Printers.

The Refill holes or ports can be found just on top of the cartridge but it is covered with the paper seal where the cartridge number is written. Pull out the paper seal to see the holes.

7. INSERT THE NEEDLE INTO ONE HOLE

After seeing where the needle will enter to inject ink, gently and slowly insert the string needle into any of the holes as shown in the picture below.

8. INJECT THE INK INTO THE CARTRIDGE

This is the most sensitive aspect. You have now inserted the needle, the next thing is to empty the string content into the cartridge.

All you have to do is gradually and slowly push the string plunger until all the ink in it has entered the cartridge.

9. REMOVE THE NEEDLE AND PUT BACK THE PAPER SEAL

You have successfully emptied the ink into the cartridge. The next thing is to use tissue paper or rag to clean up any excess ink that spilled out on the cartridge until the top surface becomes completely dry.

Then put back the paper seal you removed before the injection of the ink. You equally need to clean up any ink that spilled out and landed on any other surface.

10. CLEAN UP CARTRIDGE MOUTH ON A WHITE PAPER

The next stage is to ensure that the ink has entered the cartridge properly and can be used in printing. To do it, clean the tip of the cartridge with tissue or white paper by rubbing the cartridge mouth on a tissue surface or on a white paper surface.

11. POSITION THE CARTRIDGE DOWNWARDS AND ALLOW IT FOR SOME TIME BEFORE INSERTING IT INTO THE CARTRIDGE

This last action will enable the ink to settle properly in the cartridge making it possible to have a good printout with the cartridge
