The Scottish Government proclaimed that it has awarded firm Orbital Marine Power GBP.mln USD .million in funding for its floating tidal , which is the worldwide’s most powerful.
The Scottish firm is the first recipient of the Scottish Government’s GBP million saltire Tidal Energy Challenge Fund.
The funding will be used to convey the next generation O MW Floating Tidal Energy , capable of powering more than, households for each year.
Scotland’s Energy Minister Paul Wheelbuilding noted: “We have established a worldwide leader in marine renewable technologies and this project represents a significant step forward in technological growth. We are delighted this landmark , planed by an innovative Scottish firm, will also be built in Scotland.
“We believe tidal power technology has to not only play a significant role in our own future power system, however, it also has substantial export potential and this fund will aid move tidal technologies closer to a commercial position.
“Though, the large scale roll-out of both tidal and wave power technologies have been harmed by the UK Government’s choice to abandon its commitment to providing-fenced funding assistant.
“UK ministers must act speedily to make available the income assist this exciting and innovative sector needs to accomplish its economic potential.”

The £ million saltire Tidal Energy Challenge Fund, which assists the growth of tidal power in Scotland by driving innovation and cost reduction, was proclaimed in February this year and is uncovered until December.
