An auto manufacturing firm known for the production of Volvo brands of cars had been a popular name in the auto industry.
The firm has revealed its plan for the manufacturing of a special saloon sports car designed to rival the trending BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 sets of sports cars.
The design of the new Volvo named the S60 model was unveiled in Charleston, South Carolina.
It is a specially designed car indeed as the manufacturers indicated that it will become a “true driver’s car” a statement believed to show that the sports car may become a dream of many sport car lovers.
The site for the mass production of the said special sports car had been sited at their new US factory which will be the sole global production site.
Based on that the firm had recently opened its first US factory ahead of the production and unveiling of the new sports car model.
According to the source, the S60 saloon sports car will be built on Volvo’s Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) and will share much of its technology with their recently launched V60 car model.
The firm’s research and development boss, Mr. Henrik Green said that active chassis, driving models that deliver excellent control, and an engagement platform is things that will make the car the “driver’s car”.
S60 saloon sports car had been predicted to be on sale from early 2019 where the car will be offered in the UK with a choice of four petrol engines including two plug-in hybrids which are to fulfill the Volvo’s pledge to offer electrified versions of all their new models from 2019.

The plug-n hybrid engine will include Volvo’s supercharged 2.0-liter TB twin engine. The engine will produce 385bhp with the 299bhp petrol engine driving the front wheels and the 65KW electric unit that will power the rear axle.
The car model will offer 472lb ft. with the ability to achieve 0-62mph in 4.9seconds on its way to a top speed of 155mph.
The car’s T8 twin motor will have the polestar engineered performance upgrade developed by Volvo. And the upgrade includes brakes, revamped wheels, suspension, and tweaked engine ECU which helps to boost the combined power to 409bhp.
The car will produce 494lb ft. with the polestar engineered support which is 0.2 secs faster than 62mph to the regular version. But the maximum speed is unchanged.
At the entry-level, the engine is the 246bhp four-cylinder turbocharged T5 with a front-wheel drive and its fuel economy ranges from 7.2l/km to 8.1l/km.
The car is 4761mm long and 2040mm wide which includes the mirrors while its height is 1431mm and has a wheelbase of 2872. The total weight will be 1680kg and can store up to 42 liters of fuel.
It shares the V60’s safety and Sensus Connect infotainment systems. Which includes an optional pilot assistance system and city safety autonomous braking capacity.
The cost of the new car is yet to be made known but some predict the UK price to be £31,810.

“The S60 will be built at Volvo’s new Charleston factory, which was officially inaugurated today.
The £772-million-pound facility, which has been under construction since 2015, will employ around 1500 people initially. That will expand to 4000 when it reached its full capacity of 150,000 cars annually.
As well as the S60 the next-generation XC90, due in 2021, will be built at the plant, which covers 1600 acres on a 2.3-million-square-foot site.”
