Understanding the Causes of Irregular Rotations and Sounds From Ceiling Fan

When it comes to detecting faults in a ceiling fan, no one technician can assume to know it all. Some of the faults in ceiling fans can be very unnoticeable if not insignificant. However, when the fault becomes a hindrance to the fan’s efficient operation, the presence will become obvious.

The easiest way to know if your ceiling fan is having a fault is to pay closer attention to it during its operation, especially during the silent hours. For areas with a fluctuating voltage supply, the sound or irregular changes may not necessarily mean the presence of fault rather it could mean that the voltage supply is unstable making it difficult for the ceiling to rotate evenly.

When there is no reason to produce irregular rotation, unusual sounds, and jerking, yet those are found present in the Ceiling Fan Operations, then something definitely is wrong.

Causes of Irregular Rotations and Sounds From Ceiling Fan

The following can be highlighted as possible faults found in the ceiling fan:

1. DAMAGED BEARING:

You may wonder how on earth the ceiling fan bearing could be damaged, but frankly speaking, it is very possible to have your ceiling bearing damaged. The ceiling Bearing is usually located in the interior part of the coil couplings.

It forms a flexible joint between the rotor coil and the shaft bearing the stator coil which carries the entire weight of the fan when hung on the ceiling. Though it is not easy to ee the ceiling fan bearings damaged, some brands have such as a weakness.

Their ceiling tends to have bearing problems after years of operations. There is no simpler way of detecting a damaged bearing problem than the stiffness it causes during the fan rotation, in a severe case the ceiling fan will not rotate at all.

To know if it is a damaged bearing or another problem, you will need to dismantle the ceiling to access the condition of the two bearings in the coil.

2. LACK OF GREASE OR LUBRICATION IN THE BEARINGS:

The fault is associated with the loud noise that usually goes on and off while the ceiling fan is rotating. The presence does not go off even when you did not use the ceiling for a very long time.

The problem is a lack of lubrication in the bearing or weakness in the bearings. A good technician has to dismantle the fan coil to either change the bearings or get them lubricated if the need be.

3. ALIGNMENT PROBLEM:

another reason you will see a jerking or jumping action from your ceiling could be an alignment problem. This fault is usually common for old ceiling fans that had been in use for years.

As the fan continues to operate, it creates micro clearance between the bearings seating and the bearing itself.

When this clearance becomes wide, the bearings will tend to rotate alongside the rotating coil or stick with the stator coil while hitting around the clearance as the ceiling fan rotates.

At the stage of the ceiling lifespan, the best option is to change the Ceiling Fan because any technician maintenance will not give it a permanent solution.

WHEN TO CHANGE YOUR CEILING FAN

You do not know how bad your ceiling fan has become until you start noticing strange malfunctioning from it.

Though some malfunctioning is fixable, and some do not mean any faults at all rather other factors like the voltage supply and frequency changes can cause them.

However, major faults such as the Ceiling fan not rotating at all could mean burnt coil, seriously damaged bearings, or minor internal discontinuity that prevents voltage from reaching the ceiling fan coils.

If the cases mentioned above are the problem a good technician can get them fixed including changing the bearings and rewinding the burnt coil.

But if it is a case of damage in the bearing seating, cracks on the coil walls, etc. It is advisable to go for a new ceiling to avoid wasting money on maintenance.

A good ceiling will cost you money to purchase but can give you the lifespan satisfaction you need. In most cases, low-quality ceiling fans can be detected easily due to the low product reviews frequent burning coils, and low blowing speed.

Don’t buy any ceiling fan without a good product review and a merchant that can offer you some months of warranty.

The reason is that the warranty will help you to ascertain the quality level of the ceiling fan. There are many brands to choose from names do not really matter when it comes to electronics rather quality and warranty matter.

Do us a favor to drop a comment about any ceiling fan you have that has given you some headaches and how you were able to solve it.
