Is the Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves possible?
This may be coming to you as a surprise but the fact still remains that the Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves is very possible. It has been physically built and experimented with proven results that the energy from the water waves can be converted into electrical power which can be used in households.
However, while discussing the possibility of generating electrical power from the water waves, the need to discuss other issues such as: Why we need such energy, What is Water Waves Energy?, How Does water Waves Occur? Why The Use of Water Waves Energy is very Rare, the engineering designs we need to actualize it, what will be the working principle of the engineering designs, and what will be the power output capacity of the Hydro plant.
Let us carefully discuss the mentioned points regarding the Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves.
Why We Need The Generation Of Electrical Power From Water Waves
In the quest to achieve the global goal for renewable energy power generation aimed at saving the ozone layer from further damages caused by excessive carbon emission, the target of sourcing renewable energy from the environment has become a necessity.
Among the various free energy sources within the environment such as Sun, Wind, water waves, etc. the most untapped and rarely used one is the water wave’s energy. We need the Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves to supplement the global adoption and expansion of the use of various available renewable energy sources within the human environment in other to reduce the high carbon emission into the ozone layer.
The idea has been in the conceptual stage before recently becoming a reality. A recently unveiled water wave hydro plant named Eco-Wave Electricity has shown how possible it can be to generate electricity from water waves.
Using the available mechanical tools and equipment and unique engineering design, the company in charge of this project was able to build a series of synchronized systems that are converting the water wave’s energy into an alternating current using an electrical bulb demonstration.
What is Water Waves Energy?
The term ‘water wave energy is used to describe the energy that causes surface turbulent waves on the water. It is the energy that causes water surfaces to hit against each other. This energy can be derived mostly from heavy winds moving on the water surface or moving objects on the water surface.
How Do water Waves Occur?
The heavy water waves capable of generating electricity can occur when there is substantial energy impacting the surface of the water either as wind energy or direct turbulence from moving objects on the surface of the water. In water with consistent moving objects such as speed boats moving at close range, there will always be continuous water waves energy on the water surface, and such energy can be converted into electricity using the eco-wave engineering design approach.
Why The Use of Water Waves Energy is very Rare
You may not really have the knowledge of this energy conversion because it is very rare. As a matter of fact, the energy obtainable from it may not be substantial enough to produce the needed electrical power. Therefore, if the aim is to get such power, then a special waterfront that has close range should be the target.
When two waterfronts are close to each other, it will easier to obtain the maximum water wave energy necessary to push the eco-wave mechanical apparatus used in converting the energy into electrical energy.
The above complexity and challenge of obtaining the maximum energy from the water wave have been the limitation of this invention. However, when sighted at the proper waterfront it could serve as an alternative power source in domestic homes depending on the power output capacity.
Designs Used in The Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves
Though there are many other designs that have been on display recently, the Eco-wave design appears to be more effective, economical, reliable, and easy to set up in long series arrangement on any waterfront.
It consists of a floatable unit with a flat surface lying on the water surface. This unit is the piston head of an internal combustion engine because it receives the push from the water waves. On the top section of that unit is a connecting arm/pipe that sends the pushing force to the gearbox unit. The gearbox unit uses the pushing force to turn the dynamo shaft in a rotary motion through gearing arrangements in the gearbox unit.
Since the pushing force is not uniform and causes the electrical power generated to be fluctuating, the synchronization of large numbers of the setups becomes important. In addition, some power retaining capacitors are used to make the overall electrical power generated to be stable.
How the Generation of Electrical Power from Water Waves works
As earlier stated, the pushing force received from the floating unit placed on the water surface turns the dynamo shaft in rotary motion through the gearbox arrangement. “Since the pushing force is not uniform and causes the electrical power generated to be fluctuating, the synchronization of large numbers of the setups becomes important. In addition, some power retaining capacitors are used to make the overall electrical power generated to be stable.”
Electrical Power Capacity that Can be Generated
The capacity of electrical power output depends on many factors such as the number of the floating units, the number of dynamos, the water wave’s energy level, and lots more. Normally, to generate substantial electrical energy many of the systems have to be placed on the waterfront and then synchronized together. When properly done a full city could be powered through this cheap energy source.
