THIS VIDEO CAN TEACH YOU HOW EQUILIBRIUM OF FORCES WORKS IN ENGINEERING

The importance of equilibrium in engineering lead to durability, stability, better power output and reducing maintenance cost, etc. any machine in the non-equilibrium state is bound to suffer vibrations, frequent parts damage and oil leakages, etc. Allowing others understand how machines and engineering equipment are meant to balance will reduce the complexity involved in understanding the principle of forces.

Pentoz has released a video detailing how the equilibrium of forces works in engineering. Equilibrium of forces in engineering is a term used to describe a static body at its resting position. When a body is in equilibrium, it is assumed theoretically that all of its parts are in equilibrium. Meaning that the forces in opposite sides are equal.

In other words, an object at rest is believed that have no external forces acting against its resting position. Such is a confirmation to Newton’s first law of motion, however, that may be ideal for the theoretical approach. Practically, a body at rest may be under the inference of external force but if the force supporting the body exceeds that of the opposing force, the body will remain in its stable position.

In dynamics of forces, equilibrium of forces is usually illustrated with two or more forces stationed at opposite sides with a pole resting horizontally being supported by a pivot joint stationed on the ground. The forces fixed at the various sides of the pole can make the pole to remain at the static uniform horizontal level if there are equal at both sides otherwise the side with heavier load or force will tilt downward.

Pentoz’s video gave a clear explanation of how the equilibrium works. Though the video was meant for fun to illustrate how the engineers play with each other, it is actually a perfect demonstration to those outside the field of engineering on how the balancing of forces works.

In the middle of the video, the two cars were able to balance the instability of the platform they are resting on. The balance showed they were able to come to an equilibrium state where the force at each side at equal. Making the flat steel platform to remain uniform at horizontal level despite having a pivot point at its base.

Balancing the platform has nothing to with the weight of each car. Though different in weights, the two cars can balance such platform based on the distance created on the platform by the two cars. Notwithstanding that the actions displayed in the video are terrifying, they speak more volume than written or drawn illustrations concerning the balancing of a body to their equilibrium state.
