STEERING WHEEL / ARM:

It is the round steel or iron handle located just opposite the driver, the steering arm is the last linkage made in the steering system of automobiles.

It has a long shaft which can either be made with a solid or hollow pipe, and this shaft helps the steering system to transmit the force imparted by the driver on the steering arm to the hydraulic steering system thereby helping the car to make a smooth turn with less effort from the driver.

BREAKING UNITS:

The car brake enables it to slow down and make a stop. There are two places where the brakes of the car are located;

The large foot pedal located on the left side beneath the driver’s foot; the pedal is used for slowing down the car to bring it to a stop. Pressing your foot on the pedal will slow down the car but pressing and holding your foot on it will be the car to an eventual stop.

Hand break: by the right-hand side of the driver, there is a handle which looks like a lever arm, the handle is known as; handbrake or emergency brake or parking brake.

The function of that break is to lock the car once it has stopped at a particular point.

The locking will ensure the car never makes any move once parked in a place, therefore; some refers to it as a parking brake.

GEARSTICK:

The gear stick is used to change the gear, it is located just at the resting position of the right hand of the driver, it looks like a joystick but has slots of longitudinal lengths, the slots represent the gear numbers.

Hence moving the gear stick to any of the slots means a change of gear to the gear number indicated on the slot.

It is always advisable to move the gear stick to the slot indicated “0” once the car is parked for safety reasons.

DRIVER’S DASHBOARD:

It is the plastic made material located just opposite the driver which bears several items on it including the following; fuel gauge indicator, speedometer, RPM gauge, temperature gauge, and air vents controls.

The board also bears buttons for controls, radio/CD player, and other things which may be included based on the car brand. The functions of all the buttons were indicated on them.

IGNITION KEY:

The ignition key is where the car can be started before turning the gear stick. For the majority of cars; the ignition key slot is located just below the steering arm. To start the car, slot the car key into it, turn it twice and hold it at the last turn, the car will start.

THE CAR HORN:

The car horn is used to blow the horn located at the forefront of the car bonnet, but the button which activates the horn is located just on top of the steering arm.

The steering arm usually has a joining link in its circular shape, just on top of that joining link that is where the horning button is located, placing your hand on it will activate the horn.

SEAT ADJUSTING HANDLE:

Located just by the side of the seat, it is used to position the seat at any angular position you desire ranging from 30 degrees to 90 degrees.

SEAT BELT:

The seat is visible to anyone, it is usually closing the car seat either transversely or horizontally when put on, the seat belt can be put on by dragging its pin side and slotting it into the locking hole at the other side of the seat.

CAR DOORS GLASS CONTROL BUTTON:

located on the left-hand side of the driver, just attached at the door meant for the driver’s entrance and exit.

The button automatically raises all the glasses on each door or lowers them and that can be done by pressing and holding hand on the button.

However, there are other buttons in the same location to perform the same function but they are usually assigned to a single door for each button.

Therefore, from the driver’s door side you can lock or open other doors, lower or raise their glasses, etc.

THE SIDE MIRRORS:

The side mirror is another mandatory part of the driving experience, the mirrors can be been on either side of the front doors. They were made with diverging mirrors which enables them to make close objects to appear a bit away from the original distance.

The reason is to enable the driver to get a full view of what is happening behind the vehicle.

  1. The seat at the driver’s seat, try to make yourself as comfortable as possible in that seat by adjusting it at different angular degrees to know the angle that best suits you. Check if your two legs can comfortably press the two-pedal below the driver’s seat. Assuming all have been done successfully move to the next level.
  2. Put on the seat belt, and ensure all the safety measures are in place, such as checking to ensure the car is not in gear, the doors were closed properly, etc.
  3. Insert the car key into the ignition key slot and turn on the car to start it. Before then, use your right foot to hold on the brake pedal below the driver’s seat.
  4. Gently move the gear stick to the lowest gear available, then gently remove your leg and notice that the car has started moving.
  5. While moving at low speed, try to make turns by steering the car in the desired direction.
  6. To increase the speed of the car, match and hold-on the acceleration pedal.
