The problem of water leakage had been a common one in buildings, some of them can be attributed to the age of the building roof or wrong way in which the building was roofed.

Even incidents such as stones or metallic objects that falling on top of the building can lead to leakages on the roof during rainfall.

Heavy winds and loosed nails can also contribute to the leakage. Let us discuss how these leakages can be repaired in the event of their occurrence.

First of all, let us get a clear understanding of what building roof leakage is all about. When a roof is having leakage, it means that the roof does allow water to drop through it into the building during rainfall which usually occurs during raining season.

The situation can be very discomforting depending on how serious the leakage may be.

Evidence has shown that, once the points which the leakages occur are more than three locations, the whole place could seem messy whenever rain is falling since the whole points will be allowing water to drip into the house thereby making it inconvenient for the inhabitants of the building.

Let us look deeply into how the leakages can be prevented or repaired in the case of its occurrence;

One way of preventing or reducing the chance of roof leakage in a building is by making the roof height to be up to 9 feet and above depending on the width of the roof.

This design will ensure that during rainfall all the water that drops on the roof will quickly be brought down due to gravity before having the chance to penetrate into any hole in the roof.

Another way of preventing the problem is to ensure that high gauge (i.e, roofing sheets of high thickness) roofing sheets were used in the building. If that be the case, then the roof will not easily have holes on it except when handled by a novice in the roofing practice.

Meanwhile, let us go into details of what shall be done to repair an already leaking roof.

A situation like that has no option than to find a way of sealing the holes on the roof where the leakages are coming from.

And the secured and cheap way of doing that is to use the coal tared reflective tape, (it is a tape having a reflective back surface while the bonding surface is black; the black surface is made up of a coal tar looking material which creates strong bond with the roofing sheets once it is applied on any part of it for purpose of sealing any hole).

The tape does not only prevent water from leaking through the holes, it also ensures nothing happens to that part as the time passes.

The reflective tape is a well thought out idea for preventing roof leakages, but it must be applied only when the roof surface is dry and free from dust or any other particle, hence; it is not applicable when rain is falling otherwise it will not bond firmly.

There are other materials available in the market for the purpose of sealing roof leakages but the tape stands more accessible, cheap and can be applied by even a novice.

However, if you have any idea of cheap and accessible known sealing material for roofs and wants us to know about it, do not hesitate to drop your comment.
