NUMBER OF ALUMINUM FOR ROOFING A BUILDING

The number of aluminum for the roofing of a building can be determined through calculations but the following details concerning the building roof has to be clearing defined;

The height of the building roof

The lengths of the four sides of the building

The angle of elevation from the edge of the roof at the surface of the last block on the wall to the top of the roof, its highest point.

Having obtained these data, just add all the lengths of the roofing sides let us assume it is 500 feet altogether, divide it by 4 feet to obtain the required number of sheet in each roofing line, the total length of Aluminum short pan is 8feet by 4 feet.

So here we have 500/4=125 pieces of aluminum sheets measuring 8 feet in length and 4 feet in width but if the total length of the roof is about 24 feet it means you will need 3 piece of aluminum sheet in one line of the roof to have it covered from the up to the down.

The same is done to all the until the whole roof is covered, so in that case we shall obtain the total number of roofing sheet by multiplying the 125 pieces by 3 in each line t0 give; 125 x 3=375 pieces of aluminum sheets in total.

NUMBER OF ALUMINUM FOR FACIAL BOARDS

To obtain the number of facial boards’ aluminum, we have to obtain the total lengths of the four corners of the building and divide it by 16 feet or 8 feet depending on the length of the aluminum roof you bought, number obtained is the number of aluminum needed.

But because most facial boards are only 1 feet In width while some modern building have 2 feet width facial boards you can then divide the aluminum roofing sheet which is always 4 feet in its width by either 1 feet or 2 feet which are according to the width of the building facial boards.

If the width is 1 feet then one aluminum sheet will produce 8 pieces of facial board aluminum roofing sheets when it is cut into pieces by 1 feet in each.

Therefore, the total number of aluminum required is the product of the total lengths of the four corners of the building divided by the number of the length of aluminum sheet to be used.

The number obtained is further divided into either 1 feet or 2 feet the result becomes the actual number of aluminum required for the facial boards.

NUMBER OF WOODS FOR FACIAL BOARDS

When calculating the number of wood for the facial boards the same process used in determining the number of aluminum roofing sheets can be employed and if the plywood for the facial boards has 1 feet width and the same length as the aluminum roofing sheets.

Then they will the same number in terms of calculation. But for easy understanding, if the total length of the four corners of the building is 500 feet and the length of each facial board is 16 feet.

t means the number of facial boards required is; 500/16 =32 pieces of plywood boards are required. And each plywood board should be about N1,500 in the wood market.

NUMBER OF WOODS FOR PVC CEILING SKELETON WORK

The number of wood required for fixing of the ceiling depends on the type of ceiling and space the ceiling will be covering, for this reason, we shall be talking about the PVC ceiling which the most popular ceiling in use today for modern buildings.

The PVC ceiling use to come in 1 feet width and about 12 to 16 feet long in length, so calculating the quantity of wood required for a particular building in the making of the skeleton for the ceiling means putting these figures measured above into consideration.

An easier way of making the PVC ceiling wood skeleton otherwise known as wood noggin for ceiling, is by using 2inch by 2inch plywood to create a board in this format under the roof of the house where the ceiling will be fixed, and creating 4 feet gap in each space in the crossing of the woods.

Note that all the woods in the diagram are on the same plane no one is put on the top of another, so that the same nail can be used in all the location in fixing the ceiling.

So the number of wood required is by taking the full length of one line the area according to the diagram above and obtain the total wood required for that one particular line.

Let’s assume 3pieces of  2inch by 2inch plywood are required in each straight line running across the two axis of the building, then multiplying the 3 pieces of woods by the total number of lines the noggin has, that gives you total number of 2inch by 2inch plywood to be used in the making of the noggin or skeleton for the ceiling.

COST OF PVC CEILING AND FIXING COST

The cost of imported PVC ceiling is currently N7, 500 per bundle which has lower quality than the locally made type in Nigeria, the Made in Nigeria type is currently N11,000 per bundle and has higher thickness and rigidity than the imported types.

But the imported types usually comes with more beautiful designs than the made in Nigeria type with the disadvantage of falling off from the building after a long period of time when it is fixed  on the roof, while such incident rarely occur in the made in Nigeria PVC ceiling.

The cost of fixing the PVC ceiling may vary according to the individual but most professionals charge according to the type and bundles.

For example, a bundle of made in Nigeria PVC ceiling may be charged at N4,000 for fixing it, while the imported type may be charge at N6, 000 for fixing because of its flexibility and more nails required to fix it.

So the total cost of fixing the ceiling should be the number of bundles in the ceiling space multiplied by the cost of each bundle.

COST OF PLASTERING SAND AND PLASTERING

Another thing to consider in the building project is the plastering of the building after fixing the ceiling. To plaster a building the following are required;

Sharp sands, cement, and plastering sands.

The three may be mixed in the ratio of one wheelbarrow of sharp sands, one bag of cement and three wheelbarrows of plastering sands mixed with water to moisture the mixture for the plastering of a particular wall of the building.

Though the cost of plastering sand may vary from one location of the building site to another, but it does not exceed N15, 000 for a single trip of 911 truck. While the sharp sand does not exceed N17, 000 of the same quantity.

The cost of the plastering work other known as workmanship is usually bill by the partitions of the house, which could be by wall measurements.

The standard cost of a wall of about 12 feet height and 50 feet long in horizontal may not exceed N50, 000 for its plastering workmanship, and four times of such wall may require 1 trip of plastering sands, a ½ trip of sharp sands and about 8 bags of cement.
