DO YOU KNOW WHY MOST STORES IN NIGERIA HAVE COVER CUPS IN THEIR PADLOCKS? HERE IS WHY AND HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOURS.

The idea of using cover cups for stores and warehouses in Nigeria came after the introduction of fabricated iron doors being used recently for both houses, churches, mosques, industrial warehouses, and local stores, etc. When iron doors became popular in the country it was mainly imported and very expensive, such doors can only be seen in expensive buildings, until structural fabricators took over the idea of making local doors, which have today displaced the idea of importing doors even though that some dealers still import in little quantities but the local doors have actually dominated the foreign ones in the building supplies market.

Until the introduction of the iron doors, there had been cases of breaking and entry on people’s shop, warehouses, and even residential houses, due to the activities of the “men of the underworld”. Structural fabricators devised a means of converting the normal 1mm to 2mm steel sheets thicknesses being sold in the market for the building of petrol tanks and other structures into doors by cutting and putting them into shapes. Not only did the idea reduced the case of breaking and entry but it became very aesthetic that people began to admire the doors made with iron and steel sheets by welders.

However, despite the way people began replacing the wooden doors with the latest iron doors, there still exist some cases the door could be bypassed by breaking of the padlocks used on them, for that reason; the welders decided to introduce the idea of having a cover cup on the padlocks. It was not long before the idea spread to every part of the country such that warehouses and other public places now have their iron doors attacked with a cover cup on their padlock. The local shop was not left out, the upper and lower padlocks were usually secured with the cover cups.

Besides the security reasons, the cover ensures that no foreign particle enters into the padlock, an example of such particles includes rainfall, snow, dust, etc. it shields the padlock but from human attack and rainfall which could damage the padlock.

HOW YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN COVER CUP

Making your own cover cup is only possible if you are a welder, if not you will need to look for a welder to fix it for you. If you have any damaged small gas cylinder from a home refrigerator, take it to the welder so that it can be split into four pieces, the splitting should be one transverse cut and one longitudinal cut to create a U-shape half cup which will be four pieces, these cups are what you need. Tell the welder how you want them to be fixed at the door padlocks.

If the padlock anchors in your shop door are up to four, then you will need to use all of them but if not; you will use the number in your door and sell the remaining pieces to another person who would need them for their own shop.
